Paul Kuntze (b. 1995, Berlin, Germany) is a contemporary painter whose work explores the intersection of figurative and abstract art. Entirely self-taught, Kuntze began painting in 2019 and quickly developed a distinctive visual language inspired by the grandeur of Baroque ceiling frescoes and the expressive freedom of Abstract Expressionism. His acclaimed Modern Fresko series reimagines the celestial drama of historical fresco painting through layered acrylics, atmospheric color fields, and gestural mark-making. Rather than depicting complete narratives, Kuntze suggests figures, faces, and clouds, inviting viewers to engage their own imagination and interpretation. Influenced by a lifelong fascination with church ceilings, museums, and classical architecture, his work bridges centuries of artistic tradition while maintaining a distinctly contemporary sensibility. Based in Berlin, Kuntze has exhibited internationally, including presentations in Rome, Cologne, India, and across Europe, and continues to gain recognition for his innovative reinterpretation of fresco painting.
His practice has also attracted notable collaborations, including with Bentley Motors, reflecting the growing recognition of his work beyond the traditional art world. Through these partnerships and his expanding international exhibition history, Kuntze continues to establish himself as a distinctive voice among a new generation of contemporary painters.
